CUTTING

Scraps:

Trim and press the scraps as needed.

Interfacing:

Cut 4 rectangles 6″ × 8″.

Cut 1 square 8″ × 8″.

Cardboard:

Cut 4 pieces 7¼″ × 5¼″ for the sides.

Cut 1 piece 7¼″ × 7¼″ for the bottom.

Make the Box

All seams are ¼″ unless otherwise noted.

OUT OF THE BOX

1. Make a slab of patchwork 13″ × 17″ from fabric scraps for the sides of the box (page 48). (This will be cut into the 4 side pieces later. It’s easier to make a single slab, quilt it, and then cut it into 4 pieces rather than making and quilting 4 individual pieces.)

2. Make a slab of patchwork 8½″ × 8½″ from fabric scraps for the bottom of the box.

3. Layer the patchwork slabs on top of the batting pieces. Note: You can use backing fabric if you like, but it is not necessary.

4. Quilt as desired.
